Your child is struggling in school; you are looking for options like hiring
a tutor or using one of the large chains of learning centers. A tutor can
be an enlightening experience, however, having one can also become very
expensive and the time a tutor spends with your child is limited. The time
you spend for tutoring becomes extensive. Instead, consider tutoring your
child yourself with the subjects he is having difficulty with in school.
What level of help do we need? Does my child need homework help, intensive or
remediation, or something in between.
Unfortunately, price is one of the determining factors in choosing a tutor.
What are their payment policies? Are you charged when you cancel an
appointment? How long before you see results? What type of products do
they use? These products are approved for use in the Sylvan learning
centers. (They purchase and use Math Detective and Reading Detective
regularly) How much of an improvement will you see and will the child
become dependent on the tutor?
